The Nation’s Leading Religion Series now has improved Teacher's Manuals for the 2010/2011 School Year

The FAITH AND LIFE religion series has been hailed as a breakthrough in the field of religious education. It is a comprehensive Catholic program that combines beautiful classical and original artwork with a solid doctrinal and scriptural presentation in an easy-to-read and stimulating format that is being praised by teachers, students and parents everywhere. The time tested ecclesial methodology with spiral development engages and reinforces students' learning throughout the eight year series. The Faith and Life series underwent a key revision between 2003-2005 to incorporate and relate the material to the Catechism of the Catholic Church. (Second Edition). During this revision, more scripture references and age appropriate questions were added to the student textbooks. In 2008, minor changes were made to the student textbooks and activity books for greater clarity and consistency within the text. In 2009, the photos were updated in the student text for grades 1-5 and for 2010, the photos in the student texts for grades 6-8 will be updated.

Along with these minor changes in the past to the student textbook, Ignatius Press is proud to introduce an updated and reorganized Teacher's Manual for all grades for the 2010/11 school year (new TMs for Grades 2-6 are in stock and ready to ship. The updated TM for Grades 1,7,8 will be available sometime in June 2010).

The new Teacher’s Manuals for the 2010/11 school year feature daily lesson plans alongside an inserted and highlighted student text on the facing page for easy lesson referencing. In a large (9"x12") page layout, the manuals facilitate speedy references and are perfectly coordinated with the student texts, outlining an entire school year of plans for lessons, games, songs, and activities. The Teacher's Manuals also feature:
  • Lesson overviews with Scripture and Catechism references
  • Easy-to-follow directions for classroom activities for each lesson
  • Prayer experiences for each lesson
  • Practical suggestions for using art, photographs, music and questions as teaching tools.
  • References to supporting materials and resources found in an appendix at the back of the Teacher's Manuals
  • "Culture boxes", which contain additional information for catechists, such as chalk talk diagrams, short biographies of saints, and other useful reference material
  • Student text pages included within the Teacher's Manuals are now highlighted as to which paragraphs pertain to the current lesson for easy reference for the catechist
  • New quizzes and unit tests with answer keys
  • Blackline masters of quizzes and unit tests in the new spiral bound book are easily photocopied or use the online PDF documents to print from your computer
  • Plus online Parish Lesson plans make it easy to use the same Teacher's Manual in both a five day a week and one day a week setting

Supplementing the Teacher’s Manuals (and providing much of the material necessary for the lesson plans) are the expanded activity books, featuring enjoyable and creative activities for children at every grade level.

The FAITH AND LIFE religion series is being hailed as a breakthrough in the field of religious education. It is a comprehensive Catholic program that combines beautiful classical and original artwork with a solid doctrinal and Scriptural presentation in an easy to read and stimulating format using both the ecclesial methodology and spiral development that is being praised by teachers, students and parents everywhere.

SPECIAL FEATURES OF FAITH AND LIFE

  • Clear, comprehensive and interesting presentation of the Catholic Faith, tailored for the different grade levels, with a foundational emphasis on Scripture and Vatican II.
  • Quotations from Scripture, the liturgy, Church documents and the saints highlight important points in each lesson.
  • Inspirational classical and original artwork and updated photographs connect the lessons to the life of Christ and of the Christian.
  • Questions and answers at the end of the chapters help review vital material and aid retention.
  • Helpful supplementary sections include: Prayers and Devotions, Liturgical and Seasonal Life of the Church, Words to Know.
  • Follows guidelines laid out by the General Catechetical Directory, Pope John Paul II's "Catechesi Tradendae", and the U.S. National Catechetical Directory.

The lessons in FAITH AND LIFE incorporate the four principal components of catechesis--the Creed, the Commandments, the Sacraments and Liturgy, Prayer and Scripture.

Throughout the series, every aspect of Christian life is addressed:

  • What we believe (the Creed)
  • What we do (the Commandments)
  • The means to our end (Sacraments and Liturgy)
  • What we hope for (Prayer and Scripture)

The FAITH AND LIFE Activity Books, designed for use in the home or classroom, provide creative activities for review and reinforcement of each lesson. Through carefully developed and selected activities, the emphasis is on understanding and putting into practice the teachings of Christ in everyday life.

WORDS OF PRAISE FOR FAITH AND LIFE

"These catechetical publications are, in my experience, unsurpassed in lucidity of doctrine; in fidelity to God's revelation; in pedagogical approach; in stimulation of real interest in, and love for the Faith; in application to daily Catholic living; in true formation of young people; in skillful adaptation to the age of students to whom they are presented; and in sheer attractiveness of artistic publication. They have about them the ring of eternity because they lucidly proclaim the TRUTH. And 'it is the truth that sets us free'"

-- Bishop Thomas Muldoon
